Sent letter yesterday to you to be forwarded

We were all very sorry indeed to hear
today that Gilbert Byrne has been
killed at the Persian Gulf. He was
only a very short time & was with
Gen Aylmers relieving force.
Walked down to Craigmore to leave
a card also at Yapton. Poor
Lady Murphy will be very much upset
on account of Mrs Byrne who will
be heartbroken.
I met Stannie Moran on his motor
byke [sic: bike] first outside the gate, he came
in for a few moments but I could
not persuade him to stay for tea as
Ethel was not here. He reports all well.
He is still at Richmond barracks having
failed to pass the Signalling Exam.
he was not allowed to go to the Curragh
& his leave was stopped after Mass.
I do not think there is not much love
lost between him & his Colonel.
