Gerald turned up this morning a little before
9 oc he is looking very well indeed & very
smart in his staff uniform we hear G.S.O
means General Staff Officer I am afraid we
are horribly ignorant. He had not much
time after breakfast as he went by 10 oc
train to get 10 45 from Amiens St.
He says they are having a fairly hot time
in France being shelled continually by
the Bosche [sic: Boche] 1 but we retaliate in kind.
He met Irene in London she is off very soon
to cook in Egypt & Eveleen has gone as
Chauffeur to somebody in Exeter. They
were at Waterloo waiting for Eveleen's train
when who should they see but Tommy
Overflowing according to Irene with good
spirits & luggage. She thought he would want
a special van but this is a libel.
It was a great pleasure to see Gerald looking so fit.
This afternoon Violet & I went to town I ordered
a cake for Tommy's birthday I hope it may
arrive in time. Violet went to see Aunt Eve
& found her much better. I parted with her
& went to Sandymount to see Aunt Helena.
Editorial Notes1Boche is a derogatory term used in World War I for the Germans.
