National Famine Way

This project represents a productive collaboration between many institutions and agencies including researchers from Trinity’s ADAPT Centre.  The aim of the project to promote the amazing house and collections at Strokestown Park, and Irish Heritage Trust Property (www.irishheritagetrust.ie) and to bring benefit to the house and local community through our activities.

In 2017, the Stokestown Famine Walkers followed in the footsteps of the 1,490 tenants from Denis Mahon’s estate who were forced to emigrate during the summer of 1847.  The 155km walk took place over six days from May 27th to June 1st.
